Add a Little Ruffle to Your Party

by Beth on February 10, 2011

I just love to give that personal touch to my party favors. Here’s one that doubles as a name tag holder for your table. To add a little ruffle to your next birthday party follow the easy instructions below.

1. Materials
Yarn: I like to use organic products whenever I can. Lion Brand’s Nature Choice Organic Cotton Yarn is just perfect. It’s easy to find, Michael’s carries it, it’s thick (it knits really fast), and extremely soft. The color here is one of my favorites, it’s called Dusty Sage, but it’s really more lime than that.

Needles: No. 11. I prefer wood, not as slippery as the metal.

Ribbon and Tag: Use whatever you have on hand. I got this polka dot cross grain ribbon for a dollar a roll from Michael’s sale bin. The pink paper is card stock from Staple’s.

2. Knitting
Cast on 56 stitches. Seed Stitch (knit one, purl one, the trick is to make sure you are always putting the opposite stitch in the row below, a knit stitch goes into a purl stitch and a purl stitch goes into a knit stitch) for 9 rows. On the 10th row, decrease your stitches to a total of 14 by knitting 4 stitches together at a time. Knit 2 rows. Knit 2 rows double seed stitch (knit two, purl 2 for 2 rows at a time). Leave knitting on needles.

3. Presentation
Tie up your ball of yarn, your ruffle on its needle, and the spare needle with your ribbon in a cute bow. Add tag with guest’s name. Place on dinner plate at their place. A great favor, a great conversation starter, and knitting your scarves is a great way to spend time with your friends.

Easy Halloween Party Decorating Ideas
