Everyone thinks about the look, the feel, the food, the music, but what about the scent. Lets not forget about the 5th sense when throwing a party. Paperwhites or Narcissus are absolutely perfect for a Black & White themed party. They totally sweeten up the starkness of the Black & White theme. Plant a few bulbs a month or so prior to the party.
Here’s how you force bulbs:
Fill a shallow bowl with no drainage holes with stones or soil.
Place bulbs pointy end up on rocks or soil and push them down about halfway so they are secure and standing upright, but the top half of the bulb is exposed.
Bulbs should be crowded together it will help them support each other as they grow and bloom.
Add water, do not pour it on top of the bulbs, just the bottoms to prevent them from rotting.
Keep moist.
Place in a cool, dark (just not direct sunlight or bright room) place for 2 weeks.
When you see the roots take hold of the rocks or soil and the plant sprout from the bulb it is time to move them into bright light.
A sunny spot is good.
Keep moist.
In about 4-6 weeks you will have the most beautiful, fragrant flowers. If you want flowers all winter, plant a few every 3 weeks or so—it’s worth it.
